Metafill privacy policy

Last updated: 22 September 2026

Metafill is a Shopify app that audits products for missing product categories and category metafields, suggests values, and applies them on the merchant's request. This page explains what data the app stores and why.

Data we store

When a merchant installs Metafill, the app stores for that store:

Data we do not collect

Metafill does not request access to customers, orders, or payment data, and never stores personal information about a store's customers. Merchants are identified only by their store domain.

Third-party processing

To suggest categories and attributes, the app sends product information (title, description, product type, vendor, tags, and option names) together with the list of allowed values to Google's Gemini API. No store identity or customer data is included in these requests. Google processes this data under its API terms and does not use it to train its models.

The app is hosted on a virtual server in the European Union. Data is encrypted in transit.

How long we keep data

Data is kept while the app is installed. When a merchant uninstalls Metafill, the access token is deleted immediately and all remaining store data is deleted when Shopify sends the shop redaction request, 48 hours after uninstall. Merchants can also ask for earlier deletion.

Merchant and customer rights

Metafill responds to Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks. Because the app stores no customer data, customer data requests and customer redaction requests have nothing to return or delete, and are acknowledged as such.
